Bernard of Kuwait
Bernard of Kuwait is a true story told from the point of view of a cat named Bernard. Born in Kuwait, Bernard lived in a place where many dogs and cats roam freely and where other dogs and cats are sold as amusements at the local “Friday Markets.” Life there is uncertain, and survival depends on luck, kindness, and resilience.
Bernard’s story changes when a humane organization steps in. Rescued from danger, he is given medical care, comfort, and a chance at a different life. After a long journey, Bernard is brought to America, where he finds safety and love with his forever family.
Told through Bernard’s eyes, the story invites readers to imagine what it feels like to be vulnerable, frightened, and hopeful, all at once. It celebrates courage in the face of uncertainty and the quiet bravery it takes to trust again.
The book also acknowledges a broader truth: many grass-roots rescue organizations, along with compassionate people in Kuwait, are working to change attitudes toward animals. Together, they care for strays, advocate for humane treatment, and help as many needy pets as possible find safe homes.
Bernard is one brave and very lucky cat.
